Winchester Ciderworks Va-Ganga! was a new brewery to the Square Waffle tastebuds. The brewery is based in Virginia, hence the Virginia shaped ginger on can. The can of Vi-Ginga we sampled cam in a nice 16oz can, a full pint of sampling. Being a fan of ginger themed drinks I was excited to pop the top. The can artwork was featuring the ginger Virginia made me do a double take. I was afraid I would pronounce the name incorrectly, but I think I got it after the 3rd try.
Traditional Cider with fresh ginger
The ginger root is pressed in to the cider before pasteurization to add a little zing! The first sip was a little underwhelming for me, I wanted a bit more ZING!. After drinking many ginger beers and ginger ciders I was expecting a little more of a bite. The overall flavor of the cider however was crisp and dry. Va-Ginga is a very easy drinking cider with no weird aftertaste. Because Winchester Ciderworks uses all natural ingredients you don’t have to worry about tasting bitter fake flavors while you sip on this cider.
I’m giving my first Winchester Ciderworks brew , Va-Ginger a score of 79. Va-Ginga is a high quality of cider. If you like it more on the dry side than sweet, you make rank it a even higher. If the ginger wasn’t as subtle I would have scored this cider in the mid to upper 80s. I can’t wait to try a few more of the Winchester Ciderworks brews in the future. The first one was great and has me hopeful.
